Self Portrait

First day of school activity.  This is a great place to start.  You can give each child a plate and have them do a self portrait.  You can give them any medium of art that you want.  You can use paper or just crayons, or yarn or paint or whatever you choose.
I would keep this all year and have them do another at the end of the year so that they can compare how much they have changed with details and art.
They will love this and you can bring in the student that is reluctant to participate because there is no restrictions on what they can do.

Difference between praise and encouragment

Students need to be encouraged more than praised.  We need to be aware of what we tell the kids of and make sure to encourage and not so much praise and it is for a reason.

Graffiti writing

Student get into a group of four. They then choose a side and write about what is in the middle. In this sample, it is math and they need to draw or write something to do with that number.

Top, middle, bottom

This activity as done for positional words, top, middle and bottom.  The students got into partners and then made eyes, nose and mouth.  When they were done they put it together and it was a funny face.

Dr Suess Thing 1 and 2

I saw this activity at Lakeshore today.  They just got blue construction paper to be the hair and a sentence strip to adjust it to the child's head.  The children then decorated it how they wanted to with marker, foam stickers, and other things.

Journals in Prek

This is a great idea for all you teachers that purchase your own items for the classroom.  This teacher cut the notebooks that she uses for journal in half, this is such a money saving space saving idea.  Awesome!

Texas Flag

What a cool way to incorporate Texas history.  The children cut little blue and red paper and pasted it on a flag form.  They are learning Texas information and they are also using their fine motor skills.
